BIOGRAPHY
Douglas Madaras, Madaras Design Ltd.
Artist - Designer - Builder
Douglas Madaras designs and builds landmark architectural
spaces, features, functional design elements and sculpted forms.
The architectural and cultural renaissance of Asheville, North Carolina,
has gained national and international recognition due in part to
the purposeful hands and visionary eye of this popular Asheville
to Ann Arbor artist-designer.
His combined architectural services are defined as
Spatial Sculpting. From concept to completion, form and function
manifest in his one-of-a-kind public venues, restaurants, bars,
salons, corporate office and other canvases to include most
recently, a multiplex theater. Numerous newspapers
and magazines have recognized Asheville’s unique eateries,
music venues and the general downtown experience that Douglas has
helped to conceive and bring to life.
Douglas’ residential creations are considered
livable art installations that comfort and intrigue. His handmade
lighting, displays and fixtures add to the cohesive nature of his
spatial designs which inspire architects, artists and designers
alike. His palette consists of a broad range of materials including
fiber-optic lighting, laminates, woods, metals and found industrial
objects.
Douglas is a self taught artisan. His experiences
in the building trades, prop and set construction, and the spiritual
arts combine to make him a master of his own art form: Spatial Sculpting.
Spatial Sculpting unites his eye for detail, keen sense of relationship
and intuitive nature making him an extremely sought after artist/designer.
Douglas says that he is inspired by each waking day, travel, nature
and by his design/business partner and wife, Angela Cristin.
Douglas was raised in the deserts of Arizona. He
served over 6 years in the military specializing as a crash and
rescue fire fighter. He has been active in numerous
social/environmental causes that range from his support of Native
American land rights to his work with Veterans for Peace. Douglas is
a father of two sons: Derek, 31 and Bryon, 30.

Douglas and Angela are now living in Ann Arbor Michigan.
