…This is part of a series of occasional features - not
full-fledged reviews, but abbreviated descriptions - on
some places worth seeing, some food worth eating.
A summer detour led me to Zambra in Asheville, and to the
realization that unabashed funk with a little money
underneath - witness this place's Moroccan-inspired
design, lush coloring and fabulous sherry list - is
still not a quality one finds without driving a few
hours from Charlotte... |

…Amazingly, the setting is as colorful as the menu: Pitted
walls washed in color, wood columns rubbed with paint,
banquettes backed with patterned pillows to lounge
against, doorways of intricate shapes painted in red
against gold, or teal against red - all creating a jewel
box that manages to be comfortable, too...
